Leather craftsmanship is an ancient form of art that continues to captivate with its beauty and durability. In this post, we take you on a journey into the heart of our creative process, showing how a piece of simple vegetable-tanned leather is transformed into a unique, personalised bookmark.
The Choice of Leather
We start with the selection of quality vegetable-tanned leather — a natural material that develops a unique patina over time. This type of leather is ideal for bookmarks, as it is firm, resistant, and capable of being engraved with refined details.
Cutting and Shaping
Each bookmark is cut by hand, following carefully designed templates. Precision is essential: the edges must be straight and smooth, ensuring a refined end result. After cutting, we smooth and round the edges, giving the piece a professional and comfortable finish.
Personalisation: Where the Magic Happens
This is the most beloved step in our process. Using artisanal engraving tools, we mark names, dates, meaningful phrases or decorative motifs directly onto the leather. Each engraving is done with care and patience — there are no shortcuts when it comes to creating something truly unique.
Dyeing and Finishing
After engraving, the leather can be treated with natural dyes or waxes to enhance its colour and protect it. We apply a leather conditioner that nourishes the material and prepares it to last for years.
The Final Touch
Each bookmark leaves our atelier with a final quality check. It is a small object, but it carries enormous intention — made to accompany good books, special moments, and unique stories.
